Gavin Barrett is one of those rare students that finds a way to exceed your expectations of him with every project he takes on! Not only has be proven to he a natural audio mixer, but he has become a strong lighting designer, and extraordinary assistant technical director. He is always respectful, exceptionally reliable, and ever hungry to learn new aspects of his craft.

In each project Gavin has undertaken at RCA, he has displayed prowess and determination far above his age and experience. Initiative is absolutely a word that will always be used when describing Gavin Barrett. He is always eager to try new tasks and master them. In particular, the audio mixing job for our musicals has historically been done by teachers or guest artists. Gavin took the initiative to throw his hat into the ring. Since then, he has been our primary mixer, and he has started training the next generation of students to pick up the mantle from him when he graduates. As someone who has mixed shows professionally for over 15 years, I can say with absolute confidence that Gavin has the skills, prowess, and drive to be an excellent mixer.

Never satisfied until the job is done correctly, Gavin has gone above and beyond to make sure that his work matches his high standards. He’s not afraid to put in the extra time and work to ensure that the show is in excellent shape. Whenever I need a job to be done correctly and efficiently, I always know that I can turn to him. Furthermore, Gavin has proven to be a strong leader. He has repeatedly taken on the responsibility as a crew head, overseeing the work of several students, always leading with respect and confidence. As well as possessing the traits of a great student and technician, Gavin is an absolute delight to work with and teach! He has a great positive attitude, a strong sense of humor, and an empathic drive to see those around him succeed and flourish. Despite his age, he brings maturity, and professionalism to his work in tech theatre and his relationships with his peers.

In summary, I recommend Gavin Barrett without reservation for any endeavor he pursues! He will surpass even the highest of expectations set before him due to his talent, work ethic, personal maturity, knowledge and experience.

Tommy Rose
Technical Director
Regional Center for the Arts

This fall I directed Wit by Margaret Edson at the Regional Center for the Arts. As in a lot of arts programs our budget was tight.  So it was to be a bare bones production.

Gavin Barrett was assigned to crew the show. However, because of his amazing work ethic and his passion, he stepped up and made the show more amazing.  Gavin asked if he could help in every area, even though he was not required.  He volunteered his time and ideas creating amazing lighting and sound choices.

Whatever needed to be done Gavin just magically was solving problems before even being asked.  He hung lights, ran the board, painted things, problem solved props and even was super supportive to the cast.  The list can go on and on.   Mr Barret is a dedicated team player and extremely amazing to work with.  Even with all the pressures of being a one-man crew, his attitude was always bright and cheerful.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

Sincerely,
Kristina Dorn
